Team Profile
The history of Samsung Basketball dates back to 1978. Since its birth,
Samsung has represented Korea as one of the major Korean basketball teams
producing a number of stars and national team players. As the KBL started
in 1997, Samsung was franchised in Suwon and renewed its name to Suwon
Samsung Thunders Basketball Team. The first two seasons were frustrations
to all Samsung fans. But after coach Kim joined the team as the head coach,
Samsung started to get back to its original color and managed to advance
to 'Final Four' for two consecutive years. And finally,
Samsung took the KBL Championship crown in 2000~2001 season.
Under the great leadership of coach Kim, Samsung's point guard, Joo(#9),
was awarded the Final MVP, power forward Kyu(#13) the Rookie of the Year,
and McClary(#24) the Foreign Player MVP. People see Samsung as the biggest
basketball power in 2001 as coach Kim has coached Korean national team
in the ABC this summer and Samsung holds two solid national team players.
Samsung shall never stop working hard to win the second straight KBL Championship
for the upcoming 2001~2002 season.
